Number of Poor Families In Xekong Drops to 11.9 Percent

The number of poor families living in Xekong province fell to 11.9 percent in 2015, the Lao Economic Daily Newspaper reported yesterday.

This brought the number down from 5,423 families in 2010 to 1,772 families in 2015, according to the Provincial Planning and Investment Department. The province’s Gross Domestic Product climbed to more than 1,100 billion kip, which was double the amount recorded in 2010, while income per capita increased by more than 6 million kip compared to 2010.
