More than 400 people gathered in Vientiane on Saturday morning for a short walk in central Vientiane to mark International Day of Peace (September 21).

The aim of the walk was to raise public awareness, especially among young people, about the importance of maintaining peace in the region and across the world.

The Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity holds activities to mark the day of peace each year and organises talks, interviews, and the painting of pictures to highlight the importance of the occasion. As in the past, this year Committee organised a walk from Patouxai Park to the President’s Palace and back.

The walk was attended by Committee President Mr. Khamphan Simmalavong, deputy ministers, and senior officials from many ministries. The United Nations requests that organisations around the world hold activities to observe International Day of Peace with gatherings to promote an end to conflicts, thereby helping to reduce poverty and erase other social afflictions.
