The Vientiane Water Supply State Enterprise injected more than 800 billion kip (about US$100 million) for the expansion and improvement of the water supply system in Vientiane Capital.

Mr. Khamphuey Vongsakhamphuy, Director General of Vientiane Water Supply State Enterprise said, “The new investment is being made in response to the socio-economic development plan for 2016-2020 and the increasing demand in society”.

The money was a soft loan from a Chinese company that will be spent to develop and expand the water supply pipes stretching 450 kilometres in the districts of Naxaithong, Sikhottabong, Xaythany.

The loan will be used for replacement of old water pipes, the construction of three additional water tanks in Vientiane Capital, and the installation of up-to-date water supply management.

Once the project is complete by 2018, more than 95 per cent of the population of Vientiane will have access to the water supply.

A stone laying ceremony for the construction of three new water tanks was held on Oct 12 in the presence of Mayor of Vientiane Capital Mr. Sinlavong Khoudphaithoun.
