The Lao Bodybuilding Federation is planning to organise annual contests for young bodybuilders across various weight categories over the next 12 months.

The annual activities are the Bodybuilding Contest (Classic) in November this year and the Bodybuilding Contest (Body Physical) or Mr Lao in March next year.

During the contests the federation will select the best bodybuilders to join the national team for international competitions.

The upcoming contests are sure to attract growing numbers of young bodybuilders from Vientiane gyms while promoting friendly competition, health and fitness.

The federation held a meeting at the National Olympic Committee of Laos office on Monday to summarise its work over the last year and announce its upcoming plans. In attendance were Assistant Minister of Education and Sports and Vice President of the National Olympics Committee of Laos, MrSomphouPhongsa, President of the Bodybuilding Federation, MrBounmyBannavong, and federation officials.

MrBounmy said the federation’s coaches were keen to assist up-and-coming bodybuilders with their training and to teach them fitness and nutrition tips ahead of the contests.

The federation is also planning to send coaches and judges on training courses in Vietnam and Thailand.

During the meeting, the federation presented certificates to sponsors who supported the Mr Lao 2015 contest and to bodybuilders who attended the competition.

In 2006, the federation held a bodybuilding competition in Vientiane and sent a bodybuilding team to the 2007 24th SEA Games in Thailand, where they placed fifth.

In 2008 and last year, the federation held further bodybuilding competitions in Vientiane.
