2016 Culture China Overseas Focuses on Guangxi

More than 40 representatives of oversea media from 18 countries visited Guangxi last week to learn more about this southern region of China and how it will play an important role in the development of ASEAN. The representatives came from the USA, Japan, Canada, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Venezuela, France, Egypt, Russia, Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Hong Kong and Taiwan to attend “2016 Culture China • Overseas Media Focus on Guangxi”.

The event was hosted by the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in cooperation with the China News Service and the China News Service Guangxi Branch.

The launching ceremony for the event was attended by former president of the Guangxi Academy of Social Sciences and Beibu Gulf Research Institute Mr. Lv Yusheng, and Director General of the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the China News Service, Mrs Zhou Qun.

At the launching ceremony, the Head of the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Mr. Qin Chuncheng said that Guangxi an autonomous region inhabited by multiple national minorities.  The number of national minorities inhabiting the region makes Guangxi one of the most ethnically diverse areas of the country.

Guangxi also has unique regional advantages – it is an important portal for both the ASEAN region as well as with Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.

In addition, Guangxi is also the birthplace of more than 7 million overseas Chinese who are distributed among 92 countries on five continents of the world, according to Mr. Qin Chuncheng.

Mr. Qin Chuncheng said that since 2010, the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs under the PRC State Council and Guangxi have held several events annually, attracting more than 1,500 oversea Chinese businessmen to Guangxi, and leading to contracts being made on projects valued at more than RMB 10 billion (almost US$1.5 billion).

The aforesaid activities have become important platforms for the exchanges of visits and cooperation between companies based in Guangxi and overseas Chinese, promoting the economic opening up and development of Guangxi.

Mr. Qin Chuncheng said that recently, Guangxi has made remarkable achievements in reform, opening up both socially and economically, and has simultaneously strengthened cooperation with ASEAN member countries.
