The Lao Football Federation (LFF) is using recent successes as the basis for future plans at local, regional and international levels, it was revealed on the weekend.

The LFF held their 3rd Council Meeting for the 2015-2019 period at the Mercure Hotel in Vientiane on Saturday where they detailed achievements over the last six months.

These included the federation’s support for junior football teams competing in the AFC U-14 Regional Festival of Football 2016 hosted by Brunei in July and the success of the U-16 team at the AFC U-16 2017 Women’s Championship Qualifiers in Chonburi province, Thailand last month.

The federation also succeeded in holding the LFF’s Cup women’s tournament last month and the Lao Premier League first leg with the second leg well underway.

The weekend’s meeting was attended by Assistand Minister of Education and Sports Mr. Somphou Phongsa, Acting President of the Lao Football Federation Mr. Pasatxay Philaphandeth along with senior officials from the ministry and LFF.

Mr. Pasatxay said the LFF was able to successfully cooperate with FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), ASEAB Football Federation (AFF) and other organisations over the last six months.

The meeting heard that national interest in football was growing, especially at junior level with many clubs training youngsters. The LFF is keen to tap into this enthusiasm and develop junior players while also supporting women’s football, futsal and beach football.

The LFF held training courses to FIFA standards for officials and provincial coaches. The federation also conducted FIFA accredited training for Lao referees so they can control up to international level matches.

In the future, the LFF will better prepare national football teams in different categories so they can be more successful in FIFA, AFC and AFF competitions.

The federation is building academy accommodation at Km16 in Xaythany district with assistance from the FIFA Goal Project and will install an Astroturf pitch at its training facility in the near future.

LFF acknowledged corporate support from Lao Brewery Co., Ltd, FBT Company, TV Lao and other companies.
