Authorities in oudomxay province recently gave an explanation to people complaining about chemicals leaking and mixing in a local river after heaving rain and flooding last week, the Social-Economic newspaper reported yesterday.

Allegations that chemicals had leaked and mixed with the river were unfounded after Agriculture and Forestry
and Natural Resources and Environment Departments officials inspected the area and only found plant tonic for nourishing banana flowers as well as a fungal herbicide. The imported plant tonic and fungal herbicide were authorised by the government for use in agriculture, which don’t have adverse effects on people, animals or the environment. In addition, the plant tonic and fungal herbicide are regularly inspected and don’t leak out from their receptacles. Authorities donated crop seeds to local farmers for compensation after the flooding.
